Clothing made in Ireland is usually of excellent quality. Knit wear is widely available all over the country in large factory outlets and local craft shops. The many hand knitted items, including  the Aran sweater, are expensive and should give years of wear.

Aran sweaters are sold all over Ireland, but are mostly sold in Galway and on the Aran islands. Legend has it that each family would knit their own sweater patterns so that when fisherman were lost at sea they would be identified by the patterns  on their sweaters.

Cut tweed and Liner suits continue to be models of classic good taste while young designers are increasingly experimenting using bold lines and mixing traditional fabrics.
