The arts are very important in Irish culture. The Irish jig is a dance where people put their hands at their sides and use taps on their shoes.

Irish Lace

The Irish nuns from the Ursuline convent in Paris brought their crochet skills to a convent in County Cork around the end of the 18th century. They taught the crochet lace making to children. It is easily notable by its light, delicate  three-dimensional rosettes and picot-laced backgrounds. Their crocheted "lace" originally was meant to imitate the priceless French and Italian laces  of the 15th century.

Music

Baroque music is classical music in Ireland. Most of the older people listen to it. One Irish musical instrument famous in Ireland is the Belfast harp. Another Irish instrument is the penny whistle; it is mostly played by children. Children are the ones who play the penny whistle because that's one of the first instruments they learn in school.
