Sample Service Reflection Activities

  1. Individual - Write journal entries on impressions of the extent of ecological problems and solutions.
  2. Group - Share experiences though discussion before, after, and during service activity. Troubleshoot problems individuals are having at their service placements.
  3. Learn more information about the environment. http://yahoo.com (environment).
  4. Refer to any of the "preparation activities" above that you did not do prior to beginning the service project.
  5. Discuss the relationship between the environment and other issues, such as: economic prosperity, health.
  6. Assess effectiveness of service.
    • Are you addressing symptoms or causes of environmental problems through service?
    • Which is better to address?
    • Which is harder to address?
    • Why? What are some alternative ways to address environmental problems?
    • Did the service project accomplish the goals you set?
  7. Get inspiration from service heroes. Invite speakers to class.
  8. Explore role of politics in environment clean-up and protection.
  9. Evaluate service performance, placement, and program.
  10. Contact the Maryland Student Service Alliance
