Dr. John H. Erkman is the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Oak Grove Elementary School District for the past three years. Dr. Erkman received his BA and MA from Santa Clara University and his doctorate in educational administration from the University of San Francisco. Dr. Erkman has been a middle school teacher, GATE Coordinator, School Improvement Coordinator, Vice Principal and Principal in several districts throughout California. Most recently he served as the Assistant Superintendent Instructional Services at Cupertino Union School District for over fifteen years.
Dr. Robert Ferrera is an Associate Professor of Education at Notre Dame deNamur University and has had a very distinguished educational career. Dr. Ferrera has served as Superintendent in three school districts including Grand Rapids and Minneapolis. Most recently, Dr. Ferrera served as the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services at the Santa Clara County Office of Education. He received his doctorate in education administration from the University of Southern California.

Frank G. Foehr is a dedicated educator of 36 years in the East Side Union High School District teaching Social Studies, Economics and Psychology. He completed his Masters in Educational Administration at Santa Clara University. Frank has been an active proponent of project-based learning and portfolios for several years. His students have received recognition for their ability to integrate the principals of economics into their studies. Frank currently serves on the Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley and Monterey Bay Board of Director’s.
Robert Ibarra is a teacher on special assignment serving as Professional Development Coordinator at Andrew Hill High School in the East Side Union High School District. Robert has fifteen years teaching experience as a social studies teacher during which time he also served as department chair and mentor teacher.
Jackie Kawashima has been teaching kindergarten through fourth grade in the Oak Grove Elementary school District for over 30 years. She received her teaching credential at San Jose State University where she is now enrolled in the educational Leadership Master’s Degree program. As a teacher leader, she has integrated technology into a standards based curriculum and has served as a mentor to other educators. Jackie has participated in Santa Clara County Office Summer Internet Institutes as a facilitator and curriculum developer. Jackie has received recognition for her ability to support teachers, with various levels of expertise, understand the instructional value of technology integration.
Bill Laraway teaches fifth grade at Silver Oak Elementary, a National blue Ribbon school. He holds a Masters in Instructional Technology and has twenty-two years experience in technology demonstration and elementary education. Bill has written articles for Instructor, Electronic Learning Magazine, and Creative Classroom. He has received two fellowships from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and has done consultant work for Stanford University, Northwest Regional Education Laboratory. Bill is a National Teacher Board Member and consultant for TIME For Kids, TIME’s newsmagazine for students. Bill is recognized for his interdisciplinary approach to instruction and through engagement of all his students in community based projects.
Bruce Neff is an
enthusiastic 4th grade teacher at Santa Teresa Elementary School, a
Distinguished School of California. This is Bruce’s second year of teaching
and is looking forward to a long career of working with children in
education. Currently, he is working on a research project in his class,
which will complete his Masters in Elementary Education through the Critical
Research Academy at San Jose State University.
Tim Nguyen is a teacher on special assignment serving as Special Program Coordinator at Andrew Hill High School in the East Side Union High School District. Tim has ten years teaching experience in English Language Development.
Bonnie A. Plummer, Ph.D. serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Support Services for 6 years in the Santa Clara County Office of Education. Her major responsibilities include working in 32 school districts to provide instructional support in training teachers and administrators and in assisting districts to implement standards based curriculum and assessment systems with a focus on improving schools. In addition, Dr. Plummer supports the two occupational centers, migrant education and television services. Since coming to Santa Clara County, Bonnie has worked with staff to publish resource manuals on current educational programs and a resource guide for the California State Standards. The county is also known for a summer technology institute that trains over 600 teachers in 5 counties for 8 days.
Dr. Plummer previously worked in Sacramento where she was executive director for a 13 county Principal Training Center. Her career has included positions as a speech pathologist, teacher, principal and grants coordinator. She received her BA from Western Michigan and her MA from Penn State University and her Ph.D. from U.C. Medical School in San Francisco in child development.
Barry J. Vitcov
serves as the Director, Professional Development Services for the Santa
Clara County Office of Education. He is responsible for directing and
coordinating standards-based professional development in all K-12 content
areas. Barry was a middle school English teacher, elementary and middle
school principal, visiting educator with the Bay Area School Reform
Collaborative, and Executive Director of the California School Leadership
Academy – South Bay before assuming his current position.
Quynh Vu is a
second grade teacher and family literacy program manager at Orchard School
in San Jose. She has taught for six years and has a master's degree in
education administration. Her research focuses on improving parent
involvement of EL students and student achievement through through parent
language acquisition and family literacy.
