Upon completion of this Webquest, students should have a better understanding of the interplay between the many forces that shape the Earth- Plate Tectonics, Weathering, and Erosion.  In addition, each student will have improved her ability to utilize the internet and software to gain a further understanding of Geologic Hazards.  Finally, by communicating with a real-world scientist, students gained firsthand experience with the process of problem solving.

A follow-up piece to this Webquest has been included, though it is optional.  I require my students to keep a journal, which ties in to this part of the process.  Students are asked to take a minute or two to consider the following piece of video.  Note: this required sound, so you may need to adjust accordingly.

Los Angeles Earth Quake Mitigation at CNN.com

After watching this video, students are asked to write their reflections to the questions below in their journals:

What kind of work is being done to help mitigate geologic hazards?

Should we pay for science done to help people in areas more likely to experience hazards?

What is the most significant piece of knowledge you gained during this Webquest?
