Science/Technology
Life Science
The anatomy and physiology of plants and animals illustrate the complementary nature of structure and function. Students know :
plants and animals have levels of organization for structure and function, including cells, tissues, organ systems, and the whole organism
the structures and processes by which flowering plants generate pollen, ovules, seeds, and fruit.
Investigation and Experimentation
Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing the content in the other three strands, students should develop their own questions and perform investigations. Students will
Select and use appropriate tools and technology to perform tests, collect data, and display data.
Use a variety of print and electronic resources to collect information and evidence as part of a research project.
Communicate the steps and results from an investigation in written reports and oral presentations.
Language Arts Literacy
Writing Strategies

Create an organizational structure that balances all aspects of the composition and uses effective transitions between sentences to unify important ideas.
Support all statements and claims with anecdotes, descriptions, facts and statistics, and specific examples.
Identify topics; ask and evaluate questions; and develop ideas leading to inquiry, investigation, and research.
Create documents by using word-processing skills and publishing programs.
Revise writing to improve organization and word choice after checking the logic of the ideas and the precision of the vocabulary
Research and Technology
Exhibit legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology.
Use content-specific tools and software.
Apply productivity/multimedia tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, group collaboration, and learning throughout the curriculum.
Select and use appropriate tools and technology resources to accomplish a variety of tasks and solve problems.
