Life in Santa Maria

Santa Maria is a big city North of Santa Barbara and South
of San Luis Obispo, California.

It used to be called Central City and changed to Santa Maria
in 1882.

There is a lot of fertile soil in Santa Maria. It is good
for growing many fruits and vegetables, flowers and strawberries.

In 1874 the two streets were Main and Broadway.

The farmers used horses and carts to bring their produce
into town.

Ranchers helped each other at their work and ate barbecue
with beef, bread, beans and salad together.

In 1882 the train started coming from San Luis Obispo. It
took produce to other cities.

The wind blows a lot and makes a lot of dust in Santa Maria.

People ride bikes, fish, swim. hike and hunt.

There is a fair and rodeo every year.

People eat Santa Maria style BBQ at their things.

Santa Maria has buses, trains and planes. For the people
to get around highways 166, 135, freeway 101 run through the city.

People can take taxis.
-
The mall in town has over 80 shops and restaurants. It is
big. I like to go there.
