Introduction
The students will be writing a multi-paragraph essay on their future career.  They will be turning it into a power point presentation.
Objectives
  • Create a multi-paragraph personal essay.
  • Use MS Power Point.
  • Use MS word.
  • Edit essays.
Create and present power point to class.

Procedures & Activities

The students will write a personal essay on their future career.  The first paragraph is an introduction.  The second paragraph will be the reasons why they are choosing this career.  The third paragraph will consist of skills or interests that they have now that will help them in this career. The fourth paragraph will be about what they will need to study or learn as they grow older in order to be ready for this career.   The student will type and edit this essay using MS Word.  Using the essay, the student will create a power point presentation.  The power point should consist of four slides, one for each paragraph of the essay.  Last, the student will present their work to the class.

Target Student Age and Grade Level

Age 10-11, Grade 5
Can easily be adapted for other levels.

Length of Time Required  Up to 5 lessons of an hour each
Assessment and Evaluation  Essay will be graded using a writing rubric and power point will be graded for completeness and creativity.
Resources Needed

Software, computers, printers, internet.

Comments This project can also be done in groups.  Each student should do an essay, however, they can do the power point as a group.  Have each student in the group just create one slide that contains all of their information in a condensed version.
