My grandmother's name is Nancy. She lived in Italy. She left Italy for a better life. She traveled by ship when she was twelve years old, with her mom, dad, her three brothers and one sister. She came to America because it was a land of opportunity.
The boat trip took one month. The boat got lost and she had to stay on an island for three days.
When she arrived in the United States, she lived on Cherry Street in Manhattan. Her life was better because her family had jobs and she had a job sewing coats. She also made shoelaces in a factory.
She celebrated religious holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. She made her hometown recipes like pizza. She had a beautiful garden here with fig trees, peach trees, apricot trees, grape vines, and tomato plants.

I come from China. I left my homeland because I wanted to live with my dad. I chose the United States because I wanted to meet my dad here. My dad came here because he wanted to get a better job and wanted to get a better school for me. He could also get more money in the United States.
I first went to the airport. Then I got on the plane. My plane stopped at Hong Kong for six hours. Then I got on another plane. The journey was fun and exciting. I looked out of the window and saw the ground. It looked a map. The food on the plane tasted good.
Now I live with my dad in Brooklyn. We live on 86th Street.
When I first came to America, I didn't know how to speak English. After one year in school, I learned more English so my life is better.
I am still little, so my job is to learn and help my dad to read an English letter and explain what it means to him. I need to learn more English and go to school.
I still eat Chinese foods like rice, steamed fish, and Chinese vegetables in the the United States.
