Aim: Party With A Pooka

Vocabulary: pooka, point of view, cider, sequence

Activity#1: Learn more about pookas at: Fairies of  Ireland (Learn about the mythical creature from this multimedia web site introducing seven different types of Irish fairies) and Pooka: Symbols, Myths, and Legends.  After reading the book, rewrite the story from the Pooka's point of view.

Activity#2:  Learn about Ireland's geography, afterwards print the map and quiz of Ireland.  Research the meaning of Ireland's flag, then take a quiz, print out and color Ireland's flag.

Activity#3: In the book, Jaime O'Rourke and his friends liked to drink cider.  Here is an interactive online activity on the process of cider.

 

Extension #1:  Read original works written by other 3rd graders Scoil Mhuire Myths and Legends.  Write a review for the story you read.   Print out coloring pages of Pookas.

Extension #2:   See a virtual slide show of the Emerald Island at Slideshow of Ireland.  Using Kid Pix, write original haiku poems, and then illustrate your Irish landscape.

Extension #3: Using the following sites, Holiday Recipe | Recipe Index: St. Patrick's Day, All Recipes | Recipe Index: Irish, RecipeSource: Irish Recipes, research and create an Irish menu. 

Homework:  Menu Math  Use your knowledge of fractions and measurement to figure out how much you would need to use if a recipe were doubled or halved.
