Activity #1:  ***Complete this activity before reading the book.  Learn more about the characteristics of trolls at the following sites: Trolls in Folktales,    Trolls, History of the TrollsPrint out a copy of Create A Troll.  Choose one of the trolls and draw what you think the troll would look like.  Go and see the drawings made by the students of The Avalon East School.  

Activity #2:  Go to  Knowing Norway Treasure Hunt.  You will have a list of web sites and questions that  need to be answered.  Click on the link for a printable version.

Activity # 3:   Print out a copy of  Helga's Dowry. Learn more about an old-fashioned Norwegian Wedding here.

Activity #1 Extension:  Go to this site by Disney to get directions on how to create your own troll FamilyFun: Cork Trolls.  Print out  a copy of the picture from  http://lidenbygden.com/troll/tavla.gif, and create your own short story featuring the troll you created and this little town.

Activity #2 Extension:  Click here to see how your name would be written in runes, learn about and create their own tree-ring timelines,  and explore a viking village.  Go to Enchanted Learning for a coloring printout and quiz on Norway's flag.

Activity #3 Extension:  Using the items on Helga's Dowry, come up with your own ways on how to get these items.  Then put that situation into a short poem.  Print out the worksheet to do this activity Magic- A Helping Hand

Homework:  Choose a character from the book and write a love letter to another character in the book.
