So tell me about your trip...

There was a song in the 80's that was called "Everybody's Working for the Weekend" and boy is that true. One thing that adults and children love to do is take a vacation. But do students really know how much a trip costs, or what planning is involved? This unit deals with topics relating to trip planning. Students will research different destinations and many factors involved in taking a trip there. Final products students will prepare are a display board and a movie about their trip. In the end, students will learn more things than the answers to questions that are an adult's worst nightmare:  "Are we there yet?" and "When are we going to eat?"

TIPS: Students should be working with Windows XP computers that have Moviemaker, or download Photostory 3 (click on the link to download Photostory 3) to their computers. The project can also be done with Apple i-movie. Throughout each lesson, groups should be working on different phases of the project. The teacher may want to further guide them by including parts of the project as homework for each lesson. Rubrics and checklists should be given to groups as soon as the travel destination is decided upon. Research and movie planning must be done prior to movie creation.
