EVALUATION EDGE

 

TEACHER NOTES: In the final sessions of the unit, students will share their multimedia slide shows with fellow classmates and invited guests. Additionally, students will conduct peer evaluations of each presentation.

 

¨     OBJECTIVES:

Ø     Students will evaluate the content, the technology, and the oral presentation of the other groups.

Ø     Students will demonstrate the appropriate behaviors of a polite audience.

Ø     Students will respond in their math journals to the previously assigned questions.

 

¨     DURATION: 2 Class Sessions

 

¨     TECHNOLOGY: Camcorder or Digital Camcorder, Computers, TV, Tvator, or LCD projector

 

¨     SOFTWARE/PROGRAMS:MS PowerPoint

 

¨     TEACHER’S ROLE:

Ø     Discuss rules for audience behavior, such as appropriateness, politeness…

 

Ø     Schedule time for each group to organize before presenting.

 

Ø     Prior to the first presentation, explain to the students that they too will use a rubric to evaluate each group’s PowerPoint Presentation. You may give them the same rubric, which will be used to grade the presentation; you may modify the rubric to include some of the criteria; or you may create another rubric, which focuses on one aspect/skill, such as the oral presentation. Reread the Unit Overview: Assessment Section, where The Collaborative PowerPoint Rubric and a sample Group PowerPoint Presentation Rubric are located.

 

Ø     If possible videotape presentations. These may be posted on the school’s or the teacher’s web site.  Additionally, these can be used as a teaching/learning tool since students may view them to learn how to improve their oral presentation delivery skills.

 

¨     MATH JOURNAL: Remind students to reread the requirements for the project’s final journal entry on the Activity 1 Student Page and to complete the assignment.

 

¨     STUDENTS’ ROLE: Student, who have been given a rubric, will hold peer conferences to evaluate final presentations.
