Vote for my candidate, he's your man!

 It is an election year, candidates are geared up and ready to go, but who shall we choose and how do other people vote and why. This unit tries to briefly explore the election process, giving students a feel for what educated voters go through before deciding on  a candidate. It also gives students an opportunity to see how others voted and how their votes are used for statistical purposes.

http://politics1.com/ny.htm  The Politics1 site is an in-depth directory of New York candidates for Governor, United States Senator and Congress in the current election cycle ... state political parties ... the official state election office ... and state news sources. The site is updated as new information for candidates is presented. You can go to any candidates website from here.

 http://savvyvoter.org/  SavvyVoter.org is a nonpartisan election forum and information resource for New York City voters. This site gives you the opportunity to search your address and find out what district you belong to as well as which candidates who are presently running, will affect your area. It presents all the different candidates published viewpoints on the issues affecting the race.

 http://elections.state.ny.us/ The New York State Board of Elections site. This site talks about who is running for office and posts the political calendar.

 http://campaignline.com/ Campaignline (also known as Campaigns & Elections) is an ad filled site that contains many good links regarding politics. The site seems to be a bit politically driven and gives the odds on each election race, but the resources it has are very useful.

 http://lwvnyc.org/election.html The League of Women Voters site has election information that affects women in New York.

http://klipsan.com/elecnews.htm ElectionNotes is an daily internet news service of Klipsan Press,covering elections in the United States and around the world.

http://uselections.com/local.htm Local elections is a site that covers elections for every state.

http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/offhelp/off2000/excel/ This is the Microsoft Excel online help. You can use this site for help on creating graphs and different options with the charts.

http://ontheissues.org/default.htm On the Issues.org is a site that complies with its logo which says "Every Political Leader on Every Issue". Contains the Presidential Candidates, Political Parties, Topics in the News,  Election Schedule, Issue Analysis, Political News and more.   

NOTE: Although this lesson mentions the 2001 election, this unit and its links may be used with any New York election. Revisions have been made to the unit so that it can be adapted to almost any election in any state.
