Objectives

1) Students will learn basic holiday fire safety tips and become aware of potential fire hazards during the holiday season.

2) Students will be able differentiate among items and determine which are fired hazards and which are not.

Activities

Before class prepare several items that cause fire such as candle, matches, cigarette, electrical cord, gasoline, fire cracker, Christmas tree lights etc; as well as other non-flammable items of your choice.

 

 

 

Activities (cont.)

After discussing and sharing with the students the Holiday Safety Tips sheet the students will engage in a sensory guessing game.

Divide students into groups of three or four students. All students will be blind folded and they will have to touch or smell the items and determine if which items are fire hazards which are not.

Students will watch Holiday Safety PowerPoint presentation and discuss with classmates and teacher what they have learned.

 

 

Homework

Write a two paragraph essay describing what you have learned about fire safetty.

 

Assessment

Teacher observation and student answers to blind fold activity.
