Cacao What?  Student Worksheet

1.   Visit The Chocolate Tree at http://fieldmuseum.org/chocolate/grow_tree.html

      Learn how the cacao plant grows and how the seeds are harvested.

2.  You will now create The Anatomy of The Cacao Plant

     a  Draw picture of the cacao plant.  (you may use pictures from the net)

     b.  Label all the parts of the tree.

     c.  Below the drawing write a few sentences telling about this unique plant.

3.  Visit Field Museum at http://fieldmuseum.org/Chocolate/rainforest_interactive/rainforest.html  to  learn about the habitat of the cacao
      tree.  Use the microscope and binoculars to see and read about other plants and animals in this ecosystem.

       a.  Write an expository to explain how these plants and animals interact.

       b.  Use a flow chart to draw and label a food chain from this ecosystem.  You must include the cacao plant in this food chain.

4.    Visit the websites below and find what countries the cacao plant grows.

       a.  Visit http://enchantedlearning.com/geography/world/outlinemap/index.shtml and print map.

       b.  Locate the countries where cacao plants grow.  Label the country and color the country brown.

9.  Students will locate cacao farms around the world and locate their country on a map.
