Adverbs

 

Objective:  Learn to identify and use adverbs. 

Materials: Up, Up, and Away  by Ruth Heller, computers with Internet access.  

Book Overview:  "In this latest addition to Heller's expanding collection of parts-of-speech books, the author/artist employs her characteristically vibrant, larger-than-life paintings to examine the many aspects of adverbs."  www.amazon.com

Introduction:  Introduce adverbs to students by reading Up, Up, and Away by Ruth Heller.   Discuss book and different types of adverbs.  Have students complete Adverb Brainstorm

Web Activities:  Have students go to Adverb Activities.  Chose one of the activities to complete.  If there is extra time, have students play games at Parts of Speech Games.

Assessment:  Have students complete What is an Adverb?

Home Learning:  Have students complete another activity from  Adverb Activities and complete Adverb Word Search.  

Extension Activity: Read Dearly, Nearly, Insincerely:  What is an Adverb:   by Brian P. Cleary.  Try to come up with a poem about adverbs.
