Verbs

 

Objective:  Learn to identify and use verbs. 

Materials: To Root, to Toot, to Parachute:  What is a Verb?  by Brian P. Cleary, computers with Internet access.

Introduction:  Introduce verbs to students by reading To Root, to Toot, to Parachute by Brian P. Cleary.  Discuss with students that verbs are action words.  Discuss linking verbs and helping verbs.   Have students complete Verb Brainstorm

Web Activities:  Have students go to Action Verb Practice Test.  If there is extra time, have students play games at Parts of Speech Games.

Assessment:  Have students complete What is a Verb?

Home Learning:  Have students complete Verb Word Search.  

Extension Activity: Students can write a story with cloze sentences and have their peers come up with verbs to fill in the blanks.
