Adjectives

 

 

Objective:  Learn to identify and use adjectives.

Materials: Hairy, Scary, Ordinary:  What is an Adjective?  by Brian P. Cleary,  computers with Internet access. 

Book Overview:  "Hairy, Scary, Ordinary is a lighthearted, multifaceted illustration of the importance of adjectives in our language."  Adele Greenlee, Bethel College, St. Paul, MN


Introduction:  Begin by writing a sentence on the board - "The boy saw a monster."  Ask students what could make this sentence more exciting and descriptive.  Introduce adjectives. Read Hairy, Scary, Ordinary:  What is an Adjective? by Brian P. Cleary.  Have students complete Adjective Brainstorm and then pair share.

Assessment:  Have students complete What is an Adjective?
Home Learning:  Students will complete Adjective Word Search.  

Extension Activity: Complete Adjective Activity 1 or Adjective Activity 2.
