Lesson 6 - Arthur Meets the President

 

Objectives:  

Students will be able to:

* identify vocabulary

* students will be able to tell the difference between a Fact and an Opinion

* students will able to state five facts they learn about Washington, D.C.

Materials:

* Worksheet (vocabulary test)

* Worksheet (comprehension test)

* Worksheet (book review)

* Worksheet (Fact & Opinion)

* Computer with Internet and word processing

Working with words: Vocabulary to be covered within assessment

Activity: The teacher will...

1. Begin lesson by reviewing vocabulary words and definitions.

2. Administer vocabulary test. (10 minutes)

3. Review story by giving 10 different students sentence strips that depict events from the story.

4.  Have the students complete a worksheet on fact and opinion. (15 minutes)

5. Administered comprehension test. (30 minutes)

6. Pair up students to complete a book review activity using their book. (30 minutes)

7. Allow students to share their responses with another pair.

8. If time permits allow 2-3 pairs to share their responses.

Evaluation: Students will participate in review, complete assessment and book review activity.

Home Learning:

* Students will complete a worksheet on "If I Were President of the United States." They are going to write about some things they like about themselves, their families, and their neighborhood.
