Arthur Meets The President

How It Works: 
Students get to join Arthur as he ventures out to meet the President of the United States while exploring and finding out interesting facts about our nation's capital Washington, D.C. This unit combines language arts and social studies as well as technology. The students participate in activities such as sequencing, cause and effect, compare and contrast, and writing. The students also use online interactive activities such as word searches, spreadsheets and worksheets.

Students:
The project is designed for third grade students, but can be easily be adapted for higher and lower grade levels. Average and ESOL (English as a Second Language) students will find success. Students have fun learning about Washington, D.C. as they increase their reading and writing skills while integrating technology use and tools into activities of the book Arthur Meets the President.

Overall:
The best part of this unit is the integration of websites and their information with cooperative learning grouping of the students in the classroom. Students gain knowledge through the use of computers , Internet, reading , science and writing.

Bookmark web sites in advance and have all your materials ready for the students.

About the Teacher: 
Gladys Sardinas is in her seventh year at Charles R. Hadley Elementary; she is currently a third grade teacher. Gladys also taught second grade for many years.

For the last three years she has been a participant in the Citibank FamilyTech program in which her students have been busy and active in technology.
