Lesson Plan 3 - Compare and Contrast

 

Objectives:

*Students will be able to:

*Identify vocabulary

*Tell the differences and similarities between two types of weather pattern   (compare & contrast)

*Write a descriptive paragraph on 

Materials:

Books:  Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett  and Weather by

Venn Diagram

Activities:

1.  Have students re-read Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs at their desk silently.

2.  Read Weather to the class and discuss it with the students.

3.  Review vocabulary.

4.  Students will go online to Puzzle Maker to create a word search puzzle using the vocabulary words.

5.  Demonstrate a Venn Diagram (compare and contrast) to the class and students can go on line to Venn Diagram to look at the graphic organizer that will help the students see more clearly the similarities and the differences between the two patterns of the weather that they picked.

6.  Students can look on google, yahooligans, ask jeeves, and fact monster to learn more information on different patterns of weather.

7.  Have each student choose an weather pattern such as (ex: rain, snow, hail, hurricane) and write a descriptive paragraph in which they describe in detail about the weather they chose and what occurs in our weather system when that type of weather conditions happens.

8.  Allow the students to share their paragraph and have their classmates try to guess which weather pattern or condition they are describing.

Evaluation:

Students' completed Venn Diagram.

Students' completed descriptive paragraph on a weather conditions.

Students will complete a cause  & effect worksheet.

Home Learning:

Students will go online and complete a vocabulary unscramble worksheet and print out the worksheet and complete it.
