Cha-Ching!!

How It Works:
Cha-Ching!! is a fascinating and practical unit on money. The students use "play money" as manipulatives, moving from coin identification to coin and bill combinations. The also learn how to make equivalent amounts of money with different combinations of coins and bills, compare different amounts of money, learn how to make change, add and subtract money amounts, and solve word problems about money. Students use technology to visit websites where they play interactive games, gather information, complete activity sheets and participate in online projects.

Overall:
The best feature of this unit is that the students really enjoyed learning about money and its uses in their lives. Teachers can use this site for lesson plan ideas, activity sheets and the links to interactive math activities on the Internet.

Tips:
It would be helpful if the students were trained on how to use the Internet. Teacher should bookmark websites in advance and have materials (handouts and supplies) ready for the students.
