                            Fundamental Operations of a Computer

 

Objectives:           Write in a variety of modes

                            Write persuasively

                            Choose appropriate pieces to bring to publication in a variety of  
                            ways

                            Perform basic text formatting including font, move, insert, and delete

                            blocks of text
                            Use spell check

                       

Materials:              Computer, scanner (optional)

 

Procedure: Part One

  1. Working in groups students will write a twenty second commercial in dialogue form.

  2. Write to persuade and use the most important aspects of the company.

           
 Procedure: 
Part Two      

  1. Cut out several ads from newspaper to see how they are written.

  2. Working with a partner write and draw and ad.

  3. Re-create it on the computer either scanning in the picture or using Paint or clip art.

 
Evaluation:     Check for clarity and errors in both advertisements

Part Two Evaluation Check List

  1. Is the ad clearly stated?

  2. Does the picture relate to the product?

  3. Will it catch the reader’s attention?

  4. Will it sell the product?

  5. Are the mechanics of the writing error free?

  
Homework:     Write a jingle about the business. It should contain at least eight lines.

 

Extensions:      Act out the commercial while timing it.

 

                       Invent a new toy.

 

                       Write to a toy manufacturer asking them how a certain toy is made or 
                       ask
other questions relating to the toy.

 

Have someone bring an old toy to school. Take it apart and see how it
           works.
