Unit Overview

   Goal: Students will become familiar with geometric shapes.

   Standards Addressed:  

  1. Understands and describes the characteristics of basic two and three-dimensional shapes.
  2. Uses real life experiences and physical materials to describe, classify, compare, and sort geometric figures, including squares, rectangles, triangles, circle, cubes, rectangular solids, spheres, pyramids, cylinders, and prisms, according to the number of shapes.

   Objectives:  

  1. Identify a square, circle, triangle, and rectangle (2-dimensional figures).
  2. Identify and explore geometric solids; to use the term face, edge and corner.
  3. Determine the number of sides and corners of plane figures.
  4. Identify different polygons.
  5. Become familiar with tangrams.

Unit Assessment:

Students will be assessed through center activities and  written assignments.
