meat-eating animal
- extinct - no longer existing

- Children's Book:
Aliki. My Visit To The Dinosaurs.
New York: Thomas Y. Crowell, 1985 ( A similar children's book about dinosaurs may
be substituted)
- K-W-L chart
- Computer with Internet

You Know Fact Cards
Procedures:
- Begin a K-W-L (what I
know about Dinosaurs..., What I Want to Know About Dinosaurs..., What I Have
Learned About Dinosaurs...,). Provide students with a K-W-L handout.
- Teacher will read story My
Visit To The Dinosaurs by Aliki to introduce the unit. In this story a
visit to a museum of natural history provides a little boy with an introduction
to the habits, characteristics, and habitats of fourteen kinds of dinosaurs.
- Students will visit Brainpop.com.
Students will view the "Dinosaurs" movie and answer questions on the
online quiz. Have students write answers on a sheet of paper for assessment
purposes. To view movie click on Science Movies and then click on
"Dinosaurs."
- Students can download
clips, sounds and pictures of dinosaurs from The
Dinosaur Homepage.
- Students can play a dinosaur game at Dinosaur
Dig.
Evaluation:
- Teachers will evaluate students' answers
to questions on the K-W-L chart.
- Teachers will evaluate students'
answers on the online quiz.
Extension Activity:
- Students can play
Dinosaur Concentration. Ahead of time prepare a card with a picture of
a dinosaur on it and on another card descriptive information about the
dinosaur. Students will turn the cards face down and they have to
match them. You can obtain information and pictures for cards on dinosaurs
at Dino Facts
Home Learning:
- Students will create
two Did
You Know Fact Cards about dinosaurs. Have students share their Did You Know Cards in class.
