Desert Dinner

The sun slips down below the sands

and takes its scorching heat.

Then creatures who have slept all day

decide it's time to eat.

The tiny elf owl blinks its eyes

and leaves its cactus nest.

The fennec's ears are cocked to hear

the lizards it likes best.

Wolf spiders start to crawl.

It's dinner time beneath the stars.

They're hungry ---- one and all.

Insects, rodents, toads, beware--

when you go out at night.

To diners of the desrt club,

you taste exactly right!
