This unit wouldn't be complete without "A Taste of the Desert."
A Taste of the Desert
Have students brainstorm some foods that are popular in desert regions. Here are some suggestions:
pita bread, matzo, dates, honey, tahini, pistachio nuts, mint tea, halvah, couscous, yogurt, tostadas, artichokes, hummus, chickpeas, and sesame candy.
Have a class celebration with some of the foods.
Desert Debates
Children will enjoy researching, then orally presenting which animal has the most interesting way of beating the desert heat.
Desert Fact Books
Children can work in groups to create interesting and engaging books on their favorite aspect of the desert.
Desert Games
Have students create board games that demonstrate what they have learned about the desert.
Build a Desert Museum
Students can display their projects and items of the desert.
Create a Web Page
Invite students to create a Web Page about the desert.
