Cyber Bee Hunt           

The student will search the following sites to read about bees to begin a portfolio.  The portfolio will include all the work completed throughout the unit. 

 1.  ANATOMY OF A BEE

      Go to this site and print outline of bee and then click on each body part

      to see its name and label your outline.   Cyber Bee 

 2.  LIFE CYCLE OF THE BEE

      The student will research the metamorphosis of a bee from egg to adult. 
      Use  Yahooligans.  Students should type in words "bee" and visit the various bee sites 
      listed. Print a picture of the different stages to place in the portfolio.  

 Use the following web sites to continue gathering information and do assignments  3 through 6 below.

w Nova Bees :     Read about the bees, their home, how they 
    communicate and more.

w  Honey Kids :     Read about the different bees and their jobs.  

w The Adventures of Binx.    Read the story and find out the different 
    jobs of a worker bee.

w  A Bit About Bees: For beginning readers text is combined with 
    pictures.

w Brain Pop : Student will view the insect movie and take the 
   interactive quiz. See Brain Pop Insects

 3. THE COLONY

 Research to find out the different kinds of bees in a colony. Find out what they look like and  what is each of the bees function. Use ClarisWorks to make a table to show  your findings: Show size, number of bees in the hive, sex,  functions. Copy a picture of each to include in the table.

      Extension: Write the tell how people just like bees cooperate with each other to get work done.

4.  THE HIVE
 Research their home the hive.  Write to describe what it looks like and how they make it. Shape, color, size, how many bees it holds.  Copy pictures to include in the description.  

5 . COMMUNICATION

 Research how they communicate with each other and why.  

 Draw a diagram of how they communicate.  Write a caption explaining your diagram

6.  DEFENSE

     Research how they protect themselves from enemies.  

     Write to explain how and copy any pictures you find.

7.  Go to this site and complete the sentences about bees. 

     Copy paragraph with your answers.

8.  Work with your group to do a Kid Pix Slide presentation  on the bee.

     The presentation will include slides on the following:
