Objectives

  1. The student will use the writing process to plan, write, edit and rewrite various stories and poems.
  2. As sources of stories and poem ideas, students can use weather story starters, natural disasters, clouds, the atmosphere, acrostic poems, haiku, diamante poems, shape poems, thunderstorms, fog, rain and so on.
  3. Students can work in small groups of two or three to write, edit and rewrite.
  4. The teacher will have final say on which student work is submitted
  5. Students will post weather stories and poems at these sites:

ZUZU This site offers student-published artwork, stories, poetry, creative writing, photography and super links.

Kid Authors This site has student-published stories, poems, puzzles and links to other sites.

Geocities Enchanted Forest At this site, students can be part of a K-12 Integrated Internet Project when they submit their weather poems.

Funhouse  This site features kids writing and a newsletter.

Evaluation    

                                                                                                                                                         Student will write, edit, rewrite and publish a weather story or poem on a web site created for student work.

Homework

Locate other poems about the weather in the school library and check out the book. Read the poems and choose one to read to class

Field Trip

Visit a local library and schedule librarian to read poems to students.
