GEOGRAPHY

Mexico can be divided into a number of main physical region based on altitude. Mexico’s most physical feature is the central plateau which runs from the northern border with the United States. The plateau is flanked by two major mountain range the Sierra Madre Occidental in the west and the Sierra Madre Occidental in the east. The plateau ranges in altitude from about 900m north to about 2400m in the south.

The northwestern peninsula is dry, brushy, and produces some agricultural crops. Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta in land valleys are hot and dry. The region receives heavy rainfall and is covered by tropical forest. Only about 13 percent of Mexico land is cultivated.
