CHARLES  HOWARD

Charles Howard was the Duke of Nottingham, and he was an English commander. He was also called the Earl of Nottingham. Charles Howard did not want King Philip of Spain to take over England. He knew that England's only chance was to get the wind behind their ships and try and attack any Spanish straggler ships in battles.  The English fleet and the Spanish Armada fought in a terrible battle in 1588. Charles Howard succeeded in what he had planned- to sink the Spanish Armada.  King Philip II tried to take over England again and failed once again.  Howard and other commanders won many battles against Spain.
