The Food Pyramid

Duration:  2 class periods

Objectives:
 The student will:

Materials:
 ClarisWorks Drawing File
 Clip Art
 Internet Access

Procedures:
 1.  Students will need to become familiar with the food pyramid.
 USDA Food Pyramid

 2.  Students will be drawing their own food pyramid with the foods they like.
 3.  Using a drawing program, students will draw a triangle on the computer.
 4.  Divide the triangle into the appropriate food groups.
 5.  Have the students label each section of the pyramid and tell the number of servings suggested for each food group.
 6.  Use clip art software or the Internet to capture images for their food pyramids.  Students are to choose foods that they like to fit into each category.
 7.  Students will proofread each others work and print to present to class.

Assessment:  Students food pyramids will contain:
The name of each food group under each section.
Appropriate clipart for each category.
Correct spelling and grammar.

Home Learning:
Students will create a food pyramid that includes the foods they eat within 3 days. Students will compare and contrast each others pyramids.
