Introducing the Five Senses
Objective:

Students
will use each of the five senses to find out what is inside our microwave.

Students will discover the connection
between the five senses and the body parts used for each.

Students will listen to the book

Materials:

Microwave

Bag of microwave able popcorn
-
Napkins
-
Visit this web site for an
Aliki lesson.
Activities:
-
Place popcorn bag in microwave
when students are not in the room and cover window.
-
When students are in the room,
turn on the microwave.

Ask students how they could find
out what is in the microwave: What does it sound like or smell like?
-
Have students guess.
-
Remove bag of popcorn from the
microwave and give each child some popcorn.
-
Have students see, smell, hear,
touch and finally taste the popcorn. Ask students to describe each.

Introduce the five senses using
the story My Five Senses.
-
Introduce the five vocabulary
words used during the unit: sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste,
eye, ear, nose, mouth and hand.

Tell students we will be learning
about one of the five senses everyday throughout this unit.
Evaluation
-
Have each child name one of the
senses they used for this activity.
-
Give each child the name of a
sense and have him/her state the body part used.
