Our Five Senses

How It Works:
The purpose of this unit is to introduce kindergarten students to the five senses through fun and hands-on activities as well as the use of the Internet.  It will introduce students to each part of the body used for the various senses.  This unit will also give students a basic understanding of how we use our senses to gather information from the world around us.

Standards:
Students will learn the body parts associated to each of the five senses.

Students will learn their five senses.

Software and Materials Used:
Students will use book marked Internet web sites about the five senses to gather information and use desktop publishing software, like KidPix, to write assignments. I have listed some cool links in my unit.

Students:
This unit is designed to used with kindergarten children.  It can be adapted to higher-grade levels easily.

Overall Value:
The students will benefit from this unit because they will learn about the basic structures and functions of the human body and how they relate to the five senses. Students also learn how to use word processing and navigate the Internet at a very early age.

Tips:
Make sure you have some background information on each of the senses to give your students some interesting facts.

About the Teacher: 
Isabel Salido has a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood.  She teaches kindergarten at Charles R. Hadley Elementary School.  Ms. Salido's class is part of the Citibank FamilyTech program; this program provides computers and technology training to all the students in the class as well as their parents and teacher.
