An Overview

  • Australia: The Land Down Under connects geography with writing and technology.  
  • Students use various resources such as encyclopedias, trade books, Internet Web sites, and magazines to learn about this unique land so far away. 
  • They learn about Australian animals, such as the kangaroo, wallaby and koala bear and write and publish books and stories in the classroom and online
  • With information collected, students create and publish an Australian travel pamphlet
  • They cook up some Australian cookies and make a class cookie graph
  • They search for and locate Australian key pals and pen pals to learn first hand about life in the down under
  • They investigate the weather patterns of the southern hemisphere and compare them to local weather patterns
  • They use multimedia to create a slide show about Australia
