Australia: The Land Down Under
Goals and Objectives for Students:
1-Uses critical thinking (questioning, comparing/contrasting, evaluating) when participating in small group and whole class discussions about what has been read.
2-Publishes writing in a variety of ways, including a class-made or individual book, posting poems and stories online, and mailing to pen pals and key pals.
3-Participates in all the steps of the writing process creating experience charts, big books, cumulative stories, class books, and research projects.
4-Uses technology in the production and publishing of writing pieces.
5-Participates in meaningful and rich word study when reading and writing that includes antonyms.
6-Recognizes common map symbols used in map legends: e.g., dots/stars for cities, lines, colors, pictures.
7-Uses a compass rose as it relates to the cardinal and intermediate directions on a map.
8-Describes how major geographical features may determine the location of a community.
9- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with peers, family members and others when using technology in the classroom and home.
10- Use technology to enhance creativity, work productivity and communications.

1-To provide teachers with hands-on activities related to Australia.
2- To assist teachers in the selection of Web sites that deal with Australia.
3- To assist teachers in helping students to develop into self-directed learners.
4- To provide teachers with technology-rich web-based activities and materials.
