Provide definition of habitat (See PowerPoint presentation for all information).
Point out the three habitats we will be focusing on:  rainforests, deserts and coral reefs.
Introduce the PowerPoint Presentation

Activity:  Students will watch the PowerPoint presentation that introduces them to habitats.  They will learn about the type of climate and animals found in each and take notes. Students will  explore Web sites that link from the PowerPoint presentation; there they will hear whale sounds, see animals, and learn specifics about each habitat.

Evaluation:  Students will be asked to chose a habitat to focus on. Using desktop publishing, they will write information they learned in a Habitat Journal. Students can make entries daily or weekly. The Habitat Journal will be graded at the end of the unit.  Students must include animals, vegetation, and climate of their chosen habitat with corresponding illustrations, clip art, scanned in pictures or graphics.

Extension Activity: Habitat Bookmarks

Homework: Print out Habitat Journal and have students read to parents. Ask parents to write a comment on journal.
