Lesson 3
Title: Making a Travel Brochure
Objective: Students will be able to create on the computer a travel
brochure about their perfect vacation with clip art, scanned in photos and specific text.
Materials:
- desktop publishing program
- books on a specific Florida city (each student should have a book)
- articles from the travel section of the newspaper, travel magazines,
vacation brochures, book marked Internet travel Web sites
- printer
Activities:
- Have students read the book about their cities at their desk.
- Have students visit The
Florida USA Web site and The
State of Florida Museum, as well as Yahooligans
Search Engine and Kids Click
- Have students brainstorm ideas about the specific city.
- List on the board all the attractions and/or special things that the city
has to offer.
- Introduce the word slogan. Have students come up with different
slogans for the city.
- Have students draw something that they think represents the city.
- Have students write five facts about the city found in their book.
- Have students explain why it is the perfect vacation spot.
- Students will complete their Perfect
Vacation Planning Guide to use in the completion of their Perfect
Vacation Brochure.
- In pairs the students will go to the computer and demonstrate their
ability to locate the computer program
- Students will create a two-sided travel brochure with three columns on
each side. They can make a draft design using paper and pencil.
- Students will use text boxes and type information. Varying the font, style
and text color will add to the features of the brochure.
- Students will insert clipart wordart, charts and
graphs, and images captured from the Internet to create a
fact filled brochure on the city.
- Use spell check. Print brochures.
Evaluation: Final travel brochure with facts, clip art, and slogan will be evaluated
by originality and content.
Extension Activities: Students can use their skills to create
brochures for other topics, such as Travel in Their Favorite City or State and Travel in
the USA. Visit

Vacation Guide to help create brochure.
Fieldtrip: Take the class on a field trip to an attraction in your
city. Make a travel brochure about your city.
Homework: Read a newspaper or Internet article about travel. Share the
who, what, why, where, and when with the class.
