Instructional Objectives: Students will realize the importance of a headline, students will be able to write their own headline.

Time Required: one 45-minute class lesson

Advance Preparation: none

Materials/Resources Required: website on headlines (http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet-lab/mbhs/scragg/headlines.html)

Procedures: Once students have completed their Conrad stories and have revised them on their computers, they need to create a headline.

1) Direct students to the headline web page.

2) Have the students read some samples of various headlines. Discuss what works, what doesn't.

3) Students should complete the headline activity on the headline website.
 

HOMEWORK: Students must create a headline for the Conrad story.
