Back to the Past

by Tyrese Oliver

On June 18 1985, Tyrese Willamson was born in St. Johns Hospital in Brooklyn N.Y. Tyrese was a child of 4 years old and, growing up Brooklyn, he always stayed out of trouble and didn’t really bother anyone.

He graduated from Franklin K. Lane High Schoolwhere he became a priest and a civil rights leader. While Tyrese was growing up, he was always being bothered with by white gangs and white police officers. So one day he went to his mother and asked how was her life growing up and did she get bothered by white people.

So his mother told him to sit down and she told him how she had to deal with a lot of racial things like going to separate school and eating and using different bathroom and riding in the back of the bus.

And his mother also explained that was the reason for his father’s death and as he looked at his mother’s face she was really hurt and had tears in her eyes. Tyrese then asked how he died and his mother told him that he was killed by some racist cops for no reason.

Tyrese just sat there and thought how badly his family must have felt. So then he asked who were his ancestors and his mother looked at him told him to get the family tree poster which was very very old. It illustrates his family.

So he asked about one ancestor and his mom told him she doesn’t really know  much but she knows that his great great grand parents were slaves and both were killed by slaveowners for escaping and freeing others.

So after that conversation with his mother he thought about what their conversation and how lucky he was. However, he still wishes to go back in time and stop all the racist actions.

So later on that night he went to bed when he had a strange dream. When he woke up from his room, he didn’t know where he was at. He had on old clothes which only covered his private parts. He looked around and he finally realized that he was in the past and he had gone back to when his ancestors were alive.

Tyrese was hiding behind a big bush when he saw two horses with slave dragged behind them. Tyrese ran as far as he could. He came up to a small desertered town with a few building. He stood in the middle of the buildings when 3 white guys pulled out guns. One was Master Basten, a mean old scary man.

So Master Basten asked who he was and did he have a free pass. Tyrese calmly said his name and then said he doesn’t know what that was so Master Basten order the two white men to whip Tyrese until he told them who he was.

After being whipped a couple of times he screamed out his name, “Tyrese

Willamson,” several times. Master Basten told the men to leave him there and go back to their plantation. Tyrese then was adopted byt a slave family. As he became older, he tried to not forget that he has a family in the future and he wanted to go back to the future.

But he couldn’t and he didn’t know why. He didn’t even know how he got back to the past. So he decided he would stay because he thought that if he stayed he can meet his ancestors, but the only problem was that he did not know how they looked. Tyrese decided he would make friends with other slaves before he goes back.

He wasn’t from this time. So one day after working all day and night in the field he and a couple of his friends were bored and watned t o do something. Tyrese showed them a couple of games like hide and go seek, green light 123, and others.

Tyrese was liked by many people, even Master Basten himself. So one day Master Basten showed him the hardest working slave family. They were called Williamsom,a family of 12, led by Emily Williamson, who was the mother, and George Williamson, who was the father. They had 10 kids and the oldest was Mary Williamson.

Tyrese Williamson thought his mother's conversation and then knew that he finally found his ancestors, his great grand uncles and grand aunts and his great great grandparents. They asked him what was his name and he said “My name is Tyrese Williamson.”

Emily Williamson said “Williamson? We all have the same name?" Then she asked who was his mother and he said Mrs. Sarah Williamson. Emily said, "I don’t know who that is but you can show me her someday.

Tyrese grinned and said, "Nah, I can’t do that."

Emily asked, “Why not?”

Tyrese answered, "It’s a long story."

So a few years went by and Tyrese became a part of the Williamson family. He showed them lots of things that were not even invented yet like how to make things like paper planes, boats, and letters. He showed Ms. Williamson how to cook rice and bake cakes and Mr. Williamson how to play sports; he was really helpful.

UOne day he sat down with Mrs. Williamson and finally told his secret. He told her that he was really a part of her family and that his mother is Sarah Williamson, the great-grand-daughter of Mary Williamson, your daughter. I’m from the future. I was born in 1985 and your great-grand-daughter will have my mother in 1969 on May 14, 1969 to be exact.

Mrs. Emily Williamson laughed and laughed. She said, "You are not serious."

"I was sent to back to the past for two reasons. One to meet my ancestors and two stop slavery," said Tyrese. So as Tyrese got older, he tried to teach black people how to read and write. And he also taught all people their rights.

But when Master Basten found out about this he beat Tyrese until he was almost dead. But that didn’t stop Tyrese. He kept teaching black people their rights, and they got smarter and smarter. And every time he taught someone he got whipped.

On a sunny day in 1859, Mrs. Emi;ey Williamson & George Williamson were killed by to white slave guards. They were never freed. In 1863 slaves won their freedom and Tyrese felt he had helped his family.

After all this Tyrese finally woke up the next day in his bed in the future and he looked around. He jumped up and called his mother, “ Mommy, Mommy.”

Sarah answered, What?"

“Ma I’m back!”

”You're back?”

"Yeah, I went to past. I went back to when your great- great grandparents were alive..

His mother looked at him and laughed and said you must have had a bad dream. He argued with her that he really went back and that he got whipped and he can show the scars.

When he went to show her his scars, they were gone as  if he never had been whipped. Mrs. Williamson told him to go back to bed and relax because he was acting really strange.

Mrs. Willaimson calmly told him to relax again and she will go down to fix breakfast. Tyrese lay back down and wondered why he couldn’t prove he went back in time. Then he thought it probably was a dream, and it could have been his imagination playing with him.

So later on that day after eating breakfast, Tyrese asked his mom who was his grandfather and Mrs. Willaimson angrily said she doesn’t know and Tyrese laughed and said he does it was a white man by name of Francis Basten. The son of Master Basten. Mrs. Sarah didn’t believe him and asked how could he possibly know that. Tyrese said I told you I went back in time.

So Mrs. Williamson said do you have proof that Francis Basten is my dad and your grandfather. Yes, he lives today in Minnesotta. So Tyrese and his mother took a trip to Francis Basten house to see if he was Mrs. Williamson father.

He took a blood test and it proved that he was clearly the father of me and Sarah and that showed that racism should not exist today.
