Changing the Past by Micky Today is April 3, 2001 and its a typical day for Kim and Robby. Kim a tall, brown hair, brown eyes, black woman is getting up from her bed. She is met by her husband, Robby, a tall, white man, blond hair and hazel eyes. She looks out the window straight at the ocean. She always smiles because she always knows that she couldnt have a better life than she already has. She talks with her husband about how its great living in Miami, Florida and by an ocean. On this early morning Robby goes off to work . Today Kim looks through the pictures of everyone in her family in her house. She loves her family and friends a lot. She knows all her ancestors and all the great stories going back to her great, great, greatgrandmother. Kim loved her a lot and knew everything about her. She knew that she lived during the age of slavery and all the brutal things she went through. She keeps a picture of her great, great, greatgrandmother in her living room, which she looks at everyday. One day she stood in front of the picture and thought how it would be to live a life in slavery. All of a sudden she gets dizzy and falls to the ground. About an hour passes by when Kim finally wakes up. She looks around stunned because she doesnt know where she is. All she can see are big trees and leaves all over. She realizes she is somewhere in a forest. She never saw this place before. She decides to walk a little to see if she can find a sign indicating where she is. After walking a little she comes upon a sign, which says, Welcome to Georgia. This is when she finally knew she was in Georgia, but to her it didnt look like modern Georgia. To her it seemed as if it was around the year 1830 or 1840. She made this guess because she had read about how the country changed through time. She decided to keep walking on. In just a little while she came upon a big house. All of a sudden she heard a noise coming from the bushes. Her husband Robby pops up out of the bushes. Kim was surprised to see him. The both couldnt understand or see where they were. They both decided to keep walking. While walking they talked about how they got to this place. Kim described exactly how she fainted while looking at her great, great, great grandmothers picture. Robby also explained how he saw Kim on the floor when he came into the room. He put his hands on Kim to see what happened and then he ended up here with Kim. This is basically how Robby got into the picture. While talking they came upon a house. All of a sudden they heard a scream. It was coming from a woman. They started to run toward the sound. There they saw a black woman getting beaten by five white men. They both looked with horror when they saw the white men beating and whipping the woman. Kim right away knew that she was in a years of slavery. The five white men basically tortured the women for five minutes. After that they left laughing as if something was funny. Kim and Robby both hurried to the crying women. They quickly offered help. Looking at the women, she was very lean and short, brown hair and black eyes. After a while the women stopped crying. She looked up at both of them. The women started to flinch when she looked at Robby. Kim told her to calm down. She thought Robby would hurt her because he was a white man. The woman sat up. Kim asked her what was her name. She replied back that her name was Martha. Kim then proceeded to ask what was the year. Martha answered that the year was 1840. Now Kim knew everything. She was in the year 1840, in the state of Georgia and in the Antibellum South, where slavery is occurring. Then a white man came out of the house calling Martha. The house was located near a lake and surrounded by trees and bushes. The man that came out moved quickly towards them. He pulled Martha in a brutal way, away from Kim and Robby. He quickly asked who they were and where they come from. They made up a story that they were from NY and Robby had to say he was Kims master. They also said that they dont have any place to stay. The man rudely said that they couldnt stay here. Martha tried to convince the man by telling him that Kim and Robby were good people and that he wouldnt want both of them in the forest where its cold and damp. The man agreed to let them stay. He told Robby to stay in the house with him and Kim to go sleep with Martha in the shack in the backyard. After he said this, the man pulled Martha towards and into the house. Robby turned to Kim and they started to talk. How are we going to get out this place? he said.
Everything was mostly clean. As Kim looked out the window she sees it was getting dark. Right then and there Martha walks in to cleang the house. It wasnt weird to see her cleaning and be treated how shes treated because she is a slave. Afterwards Martha, of course, cooked the meal. Slaves dont get to eat the same things as the white people. She made some rice and chicken and a little of vegetables for Robby and the man. After being ready she served it and she left. Martha always took the leftovers, which were usually mashed up corn and scraps of rice and chicken. She really didnt have anything to eat. Kim she had no chance ediether. They both picked up the scraps and went out back to the shack to eat. The shack was pretty big but there was hardly anything in it: wo beds, separate from each other, a small stove and a bathroom that looked really vile.
Eddy also tried to rape me once.
The next morning, Kim woke up and saw Martha run out the shack. Why are you in such hurry?.
She told how Eddy was treating Martha and all about the rape and baby. "Robby< all of it was awful." All of a sudden a scream come from the house. Its Martha ,lets go.
The very next day Kim wakes up and she finds herself in her house again. She gets up from the living room floor and right there Robby walks in from the bedroom. We're back.
