Lesson Three
Aim: How can the Internet help us to research the information for our news articles?
Instructional Objectives: Students will be able to search and navigate the Internet to research information for the news article, complete worksheet on topic researched.
Materials: computers, research worksheet
Do Now/Motivation:
Homework review: Collect students' homework.
Instructional Activities:
1. Review Do Now/Motivation with students. Illicit answers from students. Be sure to review the term research so all students understand their task for today.
2. Distribute Research Worksheet to each student. Explain how students will use the worksheet their research.
3. Introduce students to search tools they should use: KidsClick - http://kidsclick.org
3. Students will use the remaining class time researching additional information for their news article. Students will be reminded to use Research Worksheet while completing their research.
4. For those students who will be interviewing a staff member or student, student will use class period to complete their interviews. Students can refer to website on interviewing tips: http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet-lab/mbhs/scragg/interview.html
Homework Assignment: Using the "Newspaper Story Format", students will fill in the worksheet using information from their Internet research.
