Lesson Four:

Aim: How can we organize a well-written news article?

Instructional Objectives: Students will be able to identify the parts of a news article and write a well-written news article using "Formula for a Well-Written News Article".

Materials: Handouts

  1. "Formula for a Well Written News Article"
  2. Reporter's Guide

Do Now: Share notes from yesterday's research with a partner.

Motivation: Ask students "How might reporters prepare to write a news article?" Write answers on the board. Also ask them how an outline might help a reporter.

Instructional Activities:

1. Review Do-Now and Motivation

2. Distribute handout- "Formula for a Well-Written News Article". Review with students what they should include when writing their news article. Review how to set up each paragraph.

3. Students will begin to write their news article. Students will use their notes along with the "Reporter's Guide" to help write their article.

 

Homework Assignment: Finish writing news article.
