Instructional Objectives: Students will be able to define "editing" , read each other's articles and use a peer-editing checklist, and edit each other's article.

Material Handouts:

Motivation: Ask students: "When you finish a writing assignment, what do you look for when you reread the writing?"

Instructional Activities:

1.Using the Editing Worksheet, have students share answers with the class.

2. Students will share ideas from the Motivation Question. Teacher will create a word web around the word EDITING, filling in ideas from students' answers.

3. Teacher will hand-out PEER-EDITING CHECKLIST and read the list with the class.

4. In their groups, students will exchange their news article. Using the checklist, students will read and edit each other's articles.

6. Teacher collects the re-written articles. Articles will be read by teacher before students write the final draft of their news article.

Homework assignment: Students will find an appropriate picture to be used with their news article. The picture can be taken from a magazine, Internet, etc, or student can draw a picture. If using the internet, direct students to try the Google Image Search and only look at the first 2 pages of hits.
