It’s Rhyme Time!

Subject: Language Arts/Technology

Grade Level: K-1

Materials: Printed Resources: Books by Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, Bill Martin Jr., and John Archambault. Brown Bear pattern stories Assorted animal pictures to color Rhythm band instruments Large Screen Computer Laptop Computers Power Point Presentation Drawing Paper and crayons Yes/No index Cards for each student Bingo boards and chips

About: • verbalize an understanding of the themes, subjects, speakers, and inferences in the poems they hear. • use verbal and physical signals to show that they recognize rhyming words and word family endings. • define what a syllable is and learn to count syllabic beats. • note where rhymes can be found. • Know which words sound the same. • Visualize the word in picture form and draw the picture that symbolizes the word • Compare 2 words to a key word and choose the word that rhymes with the key word • Copy, paste, and insert rhyming words and pictures into a PowerPoint slide (with adult assistance)

Students work together to learn the basic of a powerpoint program. They play,read and work togetherand on laptops to learn about words that rhymethrough songs and poems.

Students soak up information at this young age. They are ready and willing to learn new things on the computer,and consider it play. They are excited to use laptops and will easily remember words, games and songs presented in these exercises. Reading is enhanced and a love of learning is exemplified.
