I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

Beginning course in theory and practice composition, lighting, portraits, darkroom procedure, and camera techniques. The appreciation of photography as an art and a craft is also emphasized.


II. MAJOR OBJECTIVES

The student will be able to appreciate good photographic techniques and composition. The student will be able to attain some measure of skill in operating camera and darkroom equipment. The student will be able to appreciate the role photography plays in our everyday life. The student will develop an outlet for his creative abilities and aesthetic senses. The student will explore the opportunities that photography offers as an avocation and the selection of appropriate equipment. The student will plan major photo assignments and carry them to completion by utilizing all the techniques he has learned.


III. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION

Manipulative skills included in the course are taught in the lab by a combination of student/teacher demonstrations and practical experience. Technical knowledge, related industrial information is taught by utilizing lectures, discussions, and individual assignments.

Quizzes and test are based on # of questions. Participation in class can be up to 10% of final grade.

V. QUARTER AND FINAL GRADES

Quarter Grades- Compiled from lab assignments, testing and instructor evaluation.
Final Grades- Compiled from your 1st quarter grade, 2nd quarter, lab assignments and testing, instructor evaluation, participation, portfolio and final.


VI. DISCIPLINE

School policies are outlined in the Parent Student Handbook. Any behavior deemed disruptive to class will be handled through teacher parent contact or referred to school administration.


VII. HOMEWORK

Homework is assigned once a week. Assignments are given early in the week and are due at the end of the week.


VIII. MAKE-UP POLICY

All work can be made up within a week of it being due. Work that is turned in late without an excused absence is worth less points than if it was turned in on time. Three points are taken off for each late week.


IX. CHEMISTRY

The chemicals used in the photographic process may cause skin and / or eye irritation and / or allergic skin reaction. Tongs or latex gloves are suggested. Washing hands with soap and water at the end of each session is also recommended.

X. CLASS MATERIALS
