Education Organization Partners with AT&T Foundation to Offer Online
Network of Resources for Educators Around the World
New York, September
27, 2004 – As more teachers look for ways to integrate technology
into the classroom, Teachers Network, an education non-profit organization,
has launched TeachNet, an updated, online network of resources. Supported
by AT&T Foundation, TeachNet’s online program is designed
to help teachers integrate web-based lessons into classroom instruction.
“Many teachers want to incorporate technology
into everyday classes but do not have the resources or guidance needed
to accomplish this goal. At Teachers Network, we are dedicated to providing
support for teachers in all areas of classroom instruction, particularly
technology. We are excited to use TeachNet to offer online resources
created by teachers, for teachers that can be accessed freely and easily
by educators around the world,” said Ellen Dempsey, CEO and President
of Teachers Network and former public school teacher.
Using input from experienced teachers, TeachNet aims
to help teachers improve student learning by integrating web-based lessons
into their regular instructional practice. By logging onto http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet,
educators gain access to a wide range of curriculum, technical specialists
and grants, along with a supportive network where they can develop additional
technological skills. Resources offered on the site include lesson plans
in thirteen subject areas and all grade levels and over 500 sample technology
projects from classrooms around the world. Each of the projects and
suggestions has been tested and proven successful in the classroom by
national and international educators.
TeachNet is created and supported by the Teachers Network,
along with AT&T Foundation, allowing educators to take advantage
of the training and mentoring resources at no cost. TeachNet is one
of the many free or low-cost initiatives Teachers Network undertakes
to support educators. Earlier this month, Teachers Network, in conjunction
with the New York City Department of Education (DOE) and the Citigroup
Foundation, launched the “New Teacher Support Program.”
The new program, which includes the New Teachers Handbook, Successful Teaching Practices in Action CD-ROM
set, and New Teacher On-Line Survival Courses, helps train teachers
during the most critical point in their careers.
