TEACHER/RESEARCHERS PRESENT FINDINGS--Two Upper West Siders were among the 25 public school classroom teachers affiliated with the Teachers Network Policy Institute who shared their most recent research with policymakers June 21 at New York University The institute's mission is to close the gap between education policy and what actually happens in the classroom by supporting teachers who want to develop policy recommendations and publish or otherwise disseminate their work.
 
Manhattan Valley resident Lamson Lam conducted a study called "If You Build It They Will Come: A Structure for Supporting Urban School Parent Partnerships," in which he analyzed the impact of regular communication with his students' parents. And Upper West Sider Jen Dryer theorized about how National Foreign Language Standards could facilitate foreign language learning.
    The fellows have already shared their work with such opinion shapers and policyrnakers as State Sen. Liz Krueger, Michelle Cahill of the Department of Education and Maria Neira of the United Federation of Teachers.
