Fellowships enhance teacher leadership

Recognizing that today’s teachers are also educational leaders throughout the academic world, the Teachers Network has announced the availability of MetLife Fellowships to New York City public school teachers for the 2006-2007 school year.

MetLife fellow Richard Gadsby of JHS 113, Brooklyn, with his students.

Fellows will receive stipends of $1,000 as they participate in online dialogues with other fellows, meet once a month on Saturdays with influential policy-makers, and conduct action research studies in their classrooms while learning to help shape educational policy.

The goal of the Teachers Network Leadership Institute (TNLI) is to connect the link between policy-making and its effect of student achievement.

TNLI fellows develop policy recommendations, document their work in major publications and disseminate their findings to policy-makers at all levels. They meet with the people who create and influence pedagogy from diverse educational areas, from development to testing to legislation.

Fellows become members of an influential and supportive network of educators. DEADLINE: June 16.
